Candy
Study #1

This project originally was for a rendering and shading course offered at Texas A&M University. The goal was to keep the scope small and focus solely on surfacing, but this quickly ballooned into a deep dive into Renderman for Houdini and procedural shading.

Jars and jar lids provided by Adobe Substance 3D Assets. I am responsible for all other aspects.

Final Render

The idea and layout is inspired by HONEY JARS, a 1971 still-life by Janet Fish

Candy shading is a mix of procedural networks in Houdini and Substance Painter. All of the colors and texture map assignment are done using primitive attributes assigned to each piece of candy.

Geometry

Jars and jar lids provided by Substance 3D Assets. The candy geo is created procedurally in Houdini. I used a TOPS network to make multiple variations of each type of candy.
